I Hart Space! - Chapter 3: Out of This World, Part II

Welcome back to the Hart Legacy!  Kristina here, bringing you chapter 3.  This is part II of chapter three.  If you missed part I, here it is.

Hi fellow Simmers!  In our last chapter, we saw the generation 3 children age up from teens into adults.  Pluto and Ceres moved off the legacy lot and into their own place, leaving Eris behind to bring in generation 4.

The night Pluto and Ceres move out ends up being quite successful.  Eris is finally promoted up in her criminal career to Felonius Monk!  She cackles about it gleefully over breakfast with her father the next morning.  This unlocks the last step of her aspiration to be public enemy.  She has to make three enemies, reach level 8 of the criminal career track and witness the death of a sim.  Whoa.

As she doesn't have to go into work for the next three days, she embarks on a space-a-thon to try and get up to level 10 rocket science skill. The goal, if you remember, is to find a legacy spouse off-world, since she's made herself quite a pariah in her own community. Eris goes on several missions and brings back lots of collectibles, including something called a "live pink whale."  Fascinating.

All this work does eventually max out her rocket science skill.  She quickly begins work on the wormhole generator.

Meanwhile, Andromeda reaches level 9 in the gaming skill.

And Collin is still tending his garden and playing guitar.  These two don't have much to do right now, but will be very useful once the next generation arrives.

Fresh off of her success on the rocket ship, Eris heads back to the park to work on making mischief for her job and making enemies for her aspiration.  She looks mighty sure of herself, doesn't she?

She spies a victim from across the park and literally runs to ruin his day.

After a whole bunch of pranks and general rudeness towards Mitchell, a new challenger appears.  That's right, it's Katrina Caliente, back for another round of fighting.

It doesn't take long for things to come to blows between the girls.  Mitchell, nonplussed, goes back to his chess board.

Eris loses spectacularly, once again.  Always a poor sport, she immediately declares Katrina to be her enemy.  One down, two to go.

That's right.  You'd better run.

Eris heads home dazed after losing the fight.  With nothing else to do but sit around until her interminable days off are over, Eris finally boards her spaceship and sets course for Sixam.

Sixam actually looks pretty cool.  This was the first time I'd ever been here in my game and I was suitably impressed.  At first, Eris spent some time just taking everything in.

She wandered from place to place, picking up some unique specimens and searching for alien life.

There were quite a few aliens roaming around, but no one really caught Eris' fancy until she crossed paths with...Denzel.  Seriously, Sims developers?  Denzel?  Couldn't the aliens be named a little more creatively?  I was expecting Flaxion or Gleep or something.

Anyway, naming issues aside, Eris and Denzel hit it off right away.  They became fast friends, and in the course of their conversation Eris learned that Denzel loves the outdoors, is very ambitious, and is a foodie.  She also learned that he's single, and an alien.  I would have thought that last one went without saying, but it was apparently a shock to her.

Eventually they get to the flirting stage, while this other alien here works very hard to ignore the mushiness.

Either The Sims 4 is built to let sims and aliens form relationships at super-speed, or Eris and Denzel are having a love-at-first-sight moment, because pretty soon they have their first kiss. Having a first kiss on an alien planet is pretty much the best thing I've ever heard of, and it's totally Eris' style.

After their kiss, Denzel agrees to move back home with Eris.  This pleases her.  Space mission accomplished.

After an uneventful ride back, Eris spawns back on her home lot in a flirty mood.

While Denzel, I kid you not, immediately runs down to the basement to dance.  Eris obviously made the right choice for a spouse.

While Denzel gets a makeover, Eris has what must have been a very interesting dinner with her parents.  How do you tell your family that you secretly went to space and brought an alien back home?

She must have found a way, however, because pretty soon she's canoodling in the hot tub with a freshly coiffed Denzel.

The next day sees a return to normalcy.  Well, as normal as the Harts get, anyway.  Eris heads back to work (finally), while Andromeda works on her cooking skills.  She's kind of scary with those knives.

Speaking of scary, Betelgeuse is still thriving.  The whole family dotes on him.

Andromeda and Denzel officially meet as well.  They hit it off right away and have no trouble becoming friends.

Happy with life on a new planet so far, Denzel maintains ties to his alien home world by chatting with his buddies on the phone.  He must have some kind of crazy good cell phone plan.

I've decided not to have Denzel get a job until he completes his aspiration.  The family isn't hurting for funds right now, and it makes sense to have someone home all the time to take care of things around the house.  Guess what Denzel's aspiration is?  Body builder.  Because I didn't get enough of that one the first time around with Galaxy.  There is NO WAY he's getting a job in the Athlete career track.  I'm still having nightmares about the last time I had to mentor fitness.  Right now, all Denzel has to do is work out for 8 hours, and work out at a gym.  So, he starts working out.  Poorly.

Following his workout, he indulges in a salad full of what must be new and exciting vegetation to him.  As a foodie, this pleases Denzel.  He snaps a picture, presumably for the alien friends that call him 24/7.

He also endears himself further to Andromeda by plying her with alien candy.

A few days later, when Eris has a day off from work, Denzel tries out his alien mental powers on her.  It's not too exciting, really.  It just makes him have the same mood as her.  Totally not worth the trouble.

What is really worth the trouble, though, is bringing in the next generation of this legacy.  With their relationship going strong, Denzel proposes to Eris in the most romantic spot possible for a foodie- the kitchen.

She says yes, obviously.

Eris is pretty lucky.  She's offended so many sims that I wasn't sure if she had a softer side, but she definitely has a soft spot for Denzel.

She does not, however, have a soft spot for the Caliente family.  Spying Nina, the one remaining Caliente she hasn't yet abused, Eris races from the house to mock her.

And then, because Eris is a woman of inscrutable motives, she lays down with Nina under the shade of the cowplant and makes friends.  Perhaps she thought it would annoy Dina and Katrina more than if she merely made enemies with her.

Meanwhile, Denzell heads out to the gym to work out on a community lot for his aspiration.  With the help of this random lady who was nice enough to stop by and yell at him mentor him, he reaches his next milestone.  Next, he must reach level 6 fitness, spend 10 hours exercising, and jog for two hours.

So I didn't know this, but it turns out that aliens have this color aura that emanates from their bodies based on their moods.  Since Denzel is usually energized from working out, he's always walking around sporting this greenish glow.  It makes him look stinky all the time.  Not exactly appealing,

Anyway, no one in the house is scheduled to work the next day, so it's the perfect time for a Hart family wedding!  Andromeda kicks things off by taking some photos for the portrait wall in the house.

Pluto and Ceres were invited to the festivities, of course, and they showed up looking rather chic.

Eris was especially happy to see her sister, whom she hadn't seen in a while.  Many autonomous hugs were had by all.

Also invited was Eris' one and only non-family member friend, Nina.  Nina showed up to the wedding mad from something else, which pleased Eris to no end as she gets a positive moodlet when around the misery of others.

Before long, Eris and Denzel were exchanging vows under the wedding arch.  I was successful in getting the guests to watch, but I do with they would sit instead of standing around awkwardly.

It's times like these when I think back to generation 1 of this legacy, and remember Galaxy and Jorge getting married on their front lawn all by themselves.  We've come quite a long way since then.

And just like that, Denzel is officially a member of the Hart family.

Autonomous wedding hug.

After the ceremony was completed, the guests moved on to enjoy the food and the bar.  All except Nina, anyway, who was still upset from whatever made her mad before the wedding.  How you can look this angry while holding a chocolate covered strawberry, I'll never know.

Ceres and Pluto seem to approve of Denzel. This is their first time seeing an alien, and they didn't care in the slightest.

Collin, playing the doting father of the bride, swoops in for one of his trademark hugs.  His life bar is full and sparkly.  I'm going to miss him when he's gone, but I'm glad he made it to see Eris get married.

The rest of the wedding had really odd-looking dancing,

...invisible cake,

and a very special moment in which Denzel discovered alcohol.  A good time was had by all.

As the party was wrapping up, Eris and Denzel slipped away towards Eris' lair.

Rocket ships are good for more than just space travel, you know.

After an eventful trip through the cosmos, Eris touches down and runs to the bathroom to confirm what is hopefully good news.

Generation 4 is on the way!

Eris gives Denzel the news before he even gets the chance to take off his space suit.  He looks confused, or maybe disappointed.  He just discovered alcohol, like, an hour ago, and now he has to be all responsible and shape young minds and stuff? Harsh.

Meanwhile, after the guests have all left, Andromeda flirts with Collin and takes some family pictures in her basement photography studio.

Our photo wall is coming along nicely.

With a new little Hart on the way, the family settles in to work on their careers and aspirations before the birth.  Denzel, who hadn't gotten much of a chance to bond with his father in law yet, makes friends with Collin over some eggs the next morning.  Everyone loves Collin, even Eris, who doesn't love very many people.  I wish he wasn't bugged so I could complete his family aspiration.

After his meal, Denzel continues working on his fitness aspiration by taking a jog outside.

Eris, who will need a handful of handiness points for her crime career, starts getting ahead by upgrading the appliances in the house.

Sadly, while everyone is busy working on their skills, I discover that Betelgeuse has passed on.  I don't know what happened, because I swear someone fed him every day.  This skeleton looks like something Eris would have hanging around, so I moved it over to her evil lair.  I wish you could form a relationship with the cowplant, as he's basically a pet.  Since the whole family was all over this thing and constantly autonomously playing with it, they should have been sad when he died.  Unfortunately, being friends with a cowplant isn't a thing, so everyone carried on as if nothing happened.

Denzel, who has come around to the idea of fatherhood, set aside some time to romance Eris when she was done upgrading the sink.

This pleased her.  I love Denzel's reaction.  He'd better get used to the cackling if he's going to continue living here.

Later on, everyone abandons him for their jobs, so he continues to work out for his aspiration.

After a successful day at work, Collin returns home with a promotion to concert pianist and a slick new outfit.

Andromeda was also promoted to APM Queen and achieved gaming level 10 indulging in a little post-work fun on the motion gaming rig.

Eris returns home from work noticeably more pregnant than when she left.  She was also promotion-less.  Story of my life. I even bought her the entrepreneurial reward trait to help her get promotions faster.  Maybe being terrible at careers skips a generation, as Galaxy was super slow at this too. But hey, you know what else skips a generation?  Me.  Playing this family.  Maybe I am just terrible at careers.

As Eris' pregnancy continues its slow march towards delivery, Denzel continues to work out...still poorly by the look of things.  He does manage to attain the next level of his aspiration, meaning that now he has to get to fitness level 10 and reach max body potential.

The Hart women are known for having no fear while pregnant, and Eris is no exception.  She mischiefs Nina for her job and declares her to be her second enemy, all while comfortably gestating a new generation.

And her efforts finally pay off with a promotion to Minor Crime Lord!

Denzel is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new baby.  He's started bothering Eris for belly rubs and hugs all the time now.  He is still waiting on getting a job until he finishes his aspiration, so he doesn't have much to do beyond endlessly working out and interrupting his wife's evil agenda.

Pretty soon, he'll have a lot more to do as Eris' time is getting close.  She's been a good pregnant sim so far, just complaining about back pain from time to time.  Now that the baby is almost here, she's pretty tired too.

Collin, meanwhile, is still working on his garden.  We have more produce at this point than any sim could possibly eat.

That includes apples, by the way.  There is a little apple tree in the front of the house that I am forever forgetting to take care of.  I'll send someone over to water it once I notice that it's full of bugs.  Despite my incredible neglect, it produces endless apples.  The Harts could eat apples for every meal, every day, until the end of time.

Since Eris is too tired to go out at this stage, I have her work on her mischief for her job using the more benign interactions on her mother.  She finally gets to level 10.  This pleases her.

Then she decides to go for a swim.  Unlike Andromeda, who cannonballed into the pool while pregnant, Eris chooses a more sensible entry method.

Then relaxes with Smokey and a cup of tea afterwards.  This is the calm before the storm of constantly having children underfoot arrives.

And finally, the big day arrives!  Generation four is on its way!

Denzel is suitably panicked.  I'm pretty impressed that he woke up at 12:30 A.M. for this.  That's some legacy spouse commitment right there.

Eris hurries to the nursery and pretty soon we have...

Our first little green bean! The naming theme for this generation is giant stars, and this baby boy is named Sirius.  Since we are running a matriarchy, he can't be heir, but he's pretty cute anyway.

Sirius was not in the world for more than two minutes before Collin destroyed the cheerful memory of his birth by dying.

It was a pitiful and complicated affair.

Eris, awake because she just birthed a baby, was the only witness to the whole scene.  Remember how one of the final steps of her aspiration was to witness a sim dying?  This did it.

And she was quite happy about that, but also sad because her father had died.

She alternated between crying and smiling as her dad poofed into an urn.  Her gloomy trait exacerbated her sadness from the death, but her joy at achieving a major aspirational goal boosted her spirits.  It's like the game didn't know how to make her feel.

Her good mood temporarily won out, so I had her hop into the hot tub with Denzel to try for baby number two.  She was not successful, and the resulting negative moodlet tipped her into despair.

Figuring I'd better cut my losses, I sent her and Denzel to bed.  He had pleasant dreams.  She did not.

The gloom continues the next day with some sad painting.

Sirius, thankfully, remained oblivious to all the emotional turmoil.

With no one left to continue taking care of the garden, I cleaned it out the next day.  Perhaps our next sim with a love for gardening will start it up again.

Andromeda takes the loss of Collin hard, but figures out ways to keep herself busy.  She becomes gym buddies with Denzel and spends a lot of time working out.  It's one of the skills she hasn't spent much time on yet, so it was a good match.

Of course, she also dotes on little Sirius, who is a quiet and well-behaved infant.

Eventually, Eris starts feeling better and she tries for baby number 2 with Denzel.

And this time, it's a success.

So while the family deals with all of the happiness and sadness going on at the same time, life moves forward.  Denzel is a natural at being a dad.

and Eris endures a tougher pregnancy this time around, with lots more puking and negative moodlets.

Before long, she gets her belly.

Naturally, this is cause for great celebration.  Perhaps our heiress is on her way!

Maternity leave has taken a big bite out of Eris' progression towards her aspiration.  We need to get up to level 8 and she is only at level 5.  On the bright side, she does have an awesome new work uniform.  Unfortunately, she's only going to have a day or two to actually go into work before she's out on maternity leave again.

Denzel, however, is progressing on his track towards the body builder aspiration steadily.  He finally reaches maximum body potential and he only needs two more fitness levels to max out the skill and achieve his goal.

He also takes up some yoga, as he "loves the outdoors" and can practice outside.  Collin, who also loved the outdoors, has taken up residence in his urn behind the yoga mat, near where he once spent several days in a tent, I'm told.

The next day brings us a bigger belly.  Eris is almost ready to welcome the next little Hart child into the world.  Pretty soon, Sirius will become a child and our new baby will be born.  Andromeda is appropriately excited and goes in for lots of belly rubs.

Exhausted from this rougher pregnancy, Eris takes lots of naps.  This makes it hard for her tend to little Sirius, but it's okay.  Someone else has her back.

Collin may have passed on, but he's not going to let a little thing like that stop him from playing with his grandson.  He does midnight feedings and even changes diapers.

And since Sirius ages up in the middle of the night, only Collin is there to see it.

Sirius was an easy little baby and appears to be a pretty laid back child as well.  He makes fast friends with Collin, because he has little else to do at 1 A.M. His outgoing trait puts him in a very good mood as he builds the relationship.

Question: Do ghosts show up in pictures?  Will this photo just look like a really off-center selfie?

As the dawn finally approaches, Andromeda figures out that the spirit of Collin is in the house.  In her happiness to see him again, she forever scars poor Sirius, who politely averts his eyes...

...from this.  What a way to meet your grandmother.

Fortunately for him, there's not much time to dwell on this impromptu introduction to romance.  Eris goes into labor shortly after waking up that morning.

...but this chapter's long enough, so you're going to have to wait until next time to see what happens.  Eris' evil must be rubbing off on me!

Stay tuned for part 3 to see what's next for this family. In the meantime, join us at SiMania for more legacy stories and friendly conversation!
